Belinda has secured her second title of the season, capturing the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo, Japan. The victory marks a triumphant culmination of her rapid comeback to the WTA Tour following maternity leave.
In a display of powerful and precise tennis, Belinda defeated the Czech Republic's Linda Noskova in the final, 6-2, 6-3. This title follows her earlier success at the Abu Dhabi Open in February, cementing her return as a major factor in the women's game.
The victory in Tokyo holds a special place, as Belinda previously won Olympic gold in the same city in 2021. It is also the 10th WTA title of her career, coming exactly 10 years after her first appearance in the Pan Pacific final.
Belinda, who welcomed her daughter in April of last year and returned to the Tour just six months later, admitted the speed of her success has been unexpected.
"I didn't expect my comeback to go this fast and this well," she said. "I'm really enjoying my time back on tour and I think it's showing in the results. This was definitely not planned." Starting the season ranked World No. 421, her consistent performance has led to an incredible jump in the rankings. The Tokyo win projects her even higher than her current position of World No. 13.
